Devidas B. Dharmadhikari
With an artistic career spanning over twenty-five years as an independent professional artist, Devidas Dharmadhikari has established an unmistakable footprint within Indian contemporary art. His signature works—principally executed in acrylic on canvas—command attention through their kinetic energy, compositional grandeur, and psychological depth.
Dharmadhikari's paintings have been exhibited in premier art institutions across India, including the prestigious Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai, the Nehru Centre Art Gallery, the India Art Festival, and internationally in London, Singapore, and Dubai.
Academic Foundation & Early Years
Dharmadhikari received his formal artistic training from the venerable Dalvi's Art Institute in Kolhapur, Maharashtra—one of western India’s premier institutions for classical fine arts. Here, he mastered academic draughtsmanship, human and animal anatomy, composition, and classical color theory.
Following the completion of his Government Diploma in Art (Drawing and Painting) with high distinction, Dharmadhikari chose the demanding path of a full-time independent painter, establishing his studio in Pune and dedicating his life entirely to his easel.
Two Signature Series: Horses and Stamps
Dharmadhikari’s reputation rests on two interconnected artistic series developed concurrently:
1. The Horse Series: Widely celebrated by collectors across India and abroad, this series elevates the equine form into a cosmic symbol of kinetic vitality, freedom, and emotional resilience. Each canvas balances explosive palette knife impasto against rigorous structural discipline.
2. The Stamp Series: In this conceptual figurative series, Dharmadhikari places human forms within the serrated perforated borders of postage stamps, interrogating modern identity, state classification, societal pigeonholing, and institutional constraints.
Auction & Gallery Presence
Dharmadhikari's artworks are featured in prominent contemporary collections, corporate headquarters, and private estates across Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune, London, and the United States. His auction record and secondary market history are documented on major global art databases including MutualArt, Artzolo, and Absolutearts.
Philosophy of Art
"Painting is not merely decorative; it is an act of spiritual alignment. When I stand before an eight-foot canvas, the brush and knife cease to be tools—they become conduits for the living spirit of motion and the sacred energy that binds all living beings."
